J. Anderson

Date of Birth: 1739
Date of Death: October 15, 1808

Gentleman farmer and prolific writer on agriculture and corn law questions, chiefly in his periodical The Bee, and his series of Recreations. His discovery of the Ricardian theory of rent arose from his agricultural studies. It is first stated in the Observations, where he concluded that the rent of land is a premium paid for the privilege of cultivating soils that are more fertile than others and that its payment equalises the profits of farmers tilling land of different qualities.
